About Us

Our mission at “Kimono Wall” is to bring traditional kimonos into everyday life, and we offer new products that inherit the traditions of kimonos to people all over the world.

Why did we start “Kimono Wall”?

It was because we wanted to change the way people view kimonos in Japan.

COVID-19 has finally calmed down around the world, and international travel is slowly returning. Many tourists used to visit Japan, with a record high of 31.88 million people in 2019. Foreigners may have the image that Japanese people wear kimonos, but if you visit Japan, you will notice that very few people wear kimonos.

(The same goes for ninjas and geishas, who are rarely seen on the streets.)

Looking back through Japanese history, it is said that people began to wear kimonos as they do today during the Heian period. After that, the times changed, and from the Edo period, when Japan was closed to the outside world, to the Meiji period, the country began to be influenced by foreign cultures, and the wearing of kimonos changed to Western clothing.

In today's Japan, kimonos have become a traditional costume worn only on special occasions, such as weddings and other ceremonies and public parties.

Only a very limited number of people wear kimonos as everyday wear. It is now difficult to see people wearing kimonos on the streets.

(Personally, I feel that people wearing kimonos are very noticeable, so their beautiful appearance is emphasized even more.)

Until now, kimonos have been passed down from parent to child, and have preserved Japanese culture. However, for people who do not wear kimonos on a daily basis, kimonos are completely unnecessary. They are simply disposed of as garbage, or sold at very low prices that do not properly reflect the value of the kimono.

It may be said that traditional kimono culture is no longer needed now.

(For special occasions such as weddings, it is common to purchase or rent a kimono just for that purpose.)

Try picking up a kimono and taking a good look at it.

You will be struck by the beautiful patterns created by superb embroidery and dyeing, and the beauty of the fabrics, which show various expressions thanks to the ingenuity added to silk and cotton.

We want such wonderful kimonos to not only be an option for "everyday wear," but to "experience the wonder of kimonos in a way that blends into everyday life," so we have decided to propose a new lifestyle that incorporates kimonos to people all over the world.

Come and enjoy "Everyday Life With Kimonos" together with us at "Kimono Wall"!!
